Abstract

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common diseases of the aging man. Although the pathogenesis of BPH would generally be recognized as an androgen-dependent process, estrogens have also been implicated as an etiological factor. The proportion of serum estrogens relative to androgens increases with age. Selected biochemical factors and sex hormones in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia were evaluated.
