Abstract

BK polyomavirus (BKV) has been proposed to be involved in the etiology of prostate cancer. As persistent infection with BKV in prostate tissue may be a prerequisite for this hypothesis, we examined whether BKV DNA sequences are prevalent in tissues of prostate adenocarcinoma, and investigate the potential role of BKV in prostate tumorigenesis.
