All the sisters and staff nurses were away on a management day and the receptionist did not know who was in charge. She seemed rather suspicious of me at first then became friendlier when she saw my badge. I explained that the observations had been cleared by the head of the unit and by Margaret but this did not help her as she needed to find the person in charge to make sure it was OK for me to enter the unit.
