Abstract

Two cases of variant types of venous drainage (the scimitar syndrome) are presented. In each case, the anomalous veins could be seen on conventional radiographs and distinguished from the classic type of isolated return to the inferior vena cava. Both cases were confirmed by angiography. The diagnosis of variant scimitar syndrome should be considered whenever such abnormal densities are seen along with the classic scimitar-shaped shadow.
