Abstract

Ultraviolet absorption spectra of three nonplanar porphyrins possessing the different substituents were investigated in sixteen solvents. The spectral changes were found to be the strong solvent and substituted group dependences. The results can be interpreted in terms of H-bonding interactions between the pyrrole NH protons and the lone pair electrons of the solvent molecules.
