Abstract

Segmental colitis may occasionally present as an acute abdominal emergency, often with obstruction. It may present radiologically as a toxic dilatation of the colon or as a mechanical obstruction. The filling defects may simulate carcinoma. Illustrative cases are described and the literature is reviewed and discussed.
