Abstract

The change of the particle size of soluble and insoluble aerosols at such relative humidities as are found in the lung was investigated. The change of the particle size was determined by measuring the different attachment velocity of radioactive 220Rn decay products to the particles before and after moistening. The measurements were applied to NaCl-, SiO 2-, monodisperse polystyrene latex particles, cigarette smoke and atmospheric aerosol.
