Abstract

Summary The importance is emphasized of measurements of the angular distribution of light, belonging to diffusing glasses of different kinds. Systematical measurings of this distribution were carried out for several pieces of opal glass, illuminated by a beam of parallel light; one of them was investigated for 6 selected angles of incidence and the results represented by stereographic projection. The influence of wave-length on the transmitted light was also measured. For a set of frosted, undulated, rippled and such like glasses illuminated for the greater part by diffuse light, the distribution was determined of the transmitted light over the various directions. The great variety of properties which these diffusing glasses show under varying conditions of illumination makes it apparent, that with a view to the numerous applications to practical lighting fairly complete sets of measurements are necessary.
