Abstract

The reaction of calcium with bis[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]tin(II) in a solvent mixture of toluene and 1,2-dimethoxyethane yields calcium-bis{tris[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]stannanide}·2DME, tris[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]stannane and benzyl-tris[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]stannane; only the first two compounds are synthesized in 1,2-dimethoxyethane. Calciumdistannanide·2DME forms the radicals [(Me 3Si) 2CH] 3Sn . and [(Me 3Si) 2CH] 3SnCa . which could be characterized by their ESR-parameters with g-factors of 2.0094 and 2.0034, respectively. The tris[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]stannyl radical reacts with the solvent molecules to the above mentioned stannanes. The benzyl-tris[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]stannane crystallizes from toluene/n-pentane in the monoclinic space group P2 1/ c ( a = 1258.4(3); b = 1308.8(3); c = 2358.3(5) pm; β = 100.10(3)°; Z = 4). The tin atom is tetrahedrally coordinated with SnC-bonds of about 220 pm. The SnCC-angle of the methylene group of the benzylligand is widened to 122° due to the steric demand of the three bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl substituents.
