Abstract

Here we report on our effort in simulating two-dimensional compressible laminar viscous flows on the Kendall Square Research KSR-1 and the Intel iPSC-860 M.I.M.D. massively parallel processors using a second-order accurate Monotonic Upwind Scheme for Conservation Laws (MUSCL) finite volume/finite element method on fully unstructured triangular meshes. We advocate mesh partitioning with message passing as a portable paradigm for parallel processing of unstructured mesh simulations. We present and discuss several performance results in terms of interprocessor communication costs, scalability and sheer performance.
