Abstract
Three different numerical methods for solving unsteady two-dimensional porous flow problems with a free surface are presented. The velocity potential is expressed as the solution to a variational problem which is solved by a Rayleigh-Ritz expansion, a Kantorovich expansion and a co-ordinate transformation method. The free surface equation is solved by a Crank-Nicolson procedure. The three methods were tested on the same set of problems and the obtained results are virtually identical.
