Abstract

A model is developed for the hydrodynamic interactions between any number of thin cylindrical bodies in unsteady two-dimensional motion on straight parallel paths. The model is applicable to interactions between ships in very shallow water, and enables prediction of the sway force and yaw moment on any one ship due to the others. Particular maneuvers include ships passing each other in opposite directions, overtaking of one ship by another, and a ship moving past a stationary moored ship. A numerical method is developed, and results obtained for a range of two-ship interaction problems compare satisfactorily with experimental observations.
