Abstract

The elastic residual tensile macrostressess, the crystal lattice parameters and the mean square displacements of atoms of the α-Ti phase, the phase and elemental composition and microstructure of the surface layers of commercial titanium and Ti–6Al–4V alloy samples, subjected to processing by low energy high current pulsed electron beam were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning and transmission diffraction electron microscopy. It was found that an unstable state of the crystal lattice of the α-Ti phase occurs at the increasing of the carbon and oxygen atoms concentration in the samples surface layers.
