Abstract

A type of unstable ring resonator that includes a prism beam expander is proposed. Neither lenses nor curved mirrors are used, and transverse mode discrimination is achieved, despite the one-dimensional beam expansion, by configuring the cavity mirrors to cause 90° image rotation during a round-trip pass. The output beam has a filled-in rectangular cross section, and the cross section of the resonator mode is also rectangular.
