Abstract

We consider an infinite long hollow cylinder the temperature of which is T0 at the inside and zero at the outside wall and is in a stational state. By a grdually increased internal pressure the cylinder yields from the inside wall. Under some conditions after the inner portion has yielded, the remained elastic region has a constant maximum shear θ0/2 through the region because of superposition of thermal stresses. We assume that the material yields when the maximum stress reaches Y/2, therefore if θ0=Y, the remained elastic portion yields at the same time. Then the internal pressure does not increase. The conditions of such unstable yield, the temperature, and the internal tressure at that time are obtained. Furthermore the case when Y depons on the temperature is discussed in the last section.
