Abstract

The problem of determining the graded-reflectivity mirror profile to be used in an unstable resonator in order to obtain a specified intensity profile at the output is considered. A general analytical solution is found using a simple iterative procedure. Spatially confined output distributions imply a similarly limited reflectivity profile. Examples with super-Gaussian, Bessel and Laguerre-Gauss output beams are illustrated.
