She has conducted research in the Long Beach Cambodian community since 1988 on power and politics in refugee communities, social welfare policy, gender and sexuality, refugee health, and youth cultures. She is cofounder, with Dr. Susan Needham, of the Cambodian Community History & Archive Project (www.camchap.org).
