Abstract

ABSTRACT The inappropriate handling and disposal of soiled nappies have contributed to the negative impact on the environment and public health in general. This commentary seeks to highlight the environmental conditions in the most disadvantaged parts of South Africa. It questions if this problem is a constant public health threat and calls for intervention. Waste management, water, sanitation, and hygiene are a fundamental right for every caregiver and child, and the safe disposal of children faeces are vital in achieving these rights. The importance of sanitation in the SDG agenda and human health is captured by the commentary.
