Unlocking and realizing potential

Abstract

Every day in wards and departments in the acute healthcare setting we work as a team delivering quality evidence-based care to the best of our ability. But do you ever look at your colleagues and recognize potential? When we do recognize it, what can we do to help them unlock and realize this potential? What are the barriers? And how can they be overcome? This paper tells the story of this very process, - how a small number of healthcare assistants aspired to be scrub practitioners in an obstetric theatre, and achieved it.
