Abstract

Purpose: Although osteoarthritis (OA), a leading cause of disability, has been associated with joint alignment, scientific translational evidence for this link is lacking. High tibial osteotomy (HTO) reduces unicompartmental overload, representing a causative therapy for symptomatic medial tibiofemoral varus knee OA. Here, we validate in a preclinical large animal model the effect of valgus HTO on the pattern of OA development induced by partial medial anterior meniscectomy (pMMx) in the osteochondral unit at two time points.
