Abstract

The experiment attempted to demonstrate unlearning and spontaneous recovery in a STM situation. In Experimental tests Ss learned two successive single syllables and then recalled both syllables in an unpaced recall task after having counted backwards for either 3, 9, or 18 sec. In Control tests Ss learned and recalled single syllables. Highly significant unlearning of the experimental first syllables was demonstrated. Some evidence for spontaneous recovery was presented.
