Abstract

The paper uses Paul Feyerabend’s model of the “free society” to furnish a philosophical analysis of the relation between science and the other cultural traditions present in our society. Feyerabend’s model is analysed and criticised on the basis of recent developments in cognitive science. In particular, the claim is made that a pluralistic account of the relations between science and other cultural traditions is compatible with a rejection of (a strong version of) cultural relativism.
