Abstract

Low-frequency oscillations of a fally ionized inhomogeneous cylindrical cesium plasma column in a magmetic field that were identified as normal modes of the universal instabiiity are reported. The experiments were performed at densities of (1 to 4) x 10/sup -11/ cm/sup -3/ with magnetic fields ranging from 3000 to 5000 gauss. (C.E.S.)
