Abstract

A new method of analysis which results in a modular microwave equivalent circuit representation for open guided wave structures has recently been presented. The equivalent circuit takes into account both the guided and continuous spectra and gives accurate answers with limited computational effort. This method is applied to the analysis of rib guides and accurate design information valid over the range of parameters typically encountered in integrated optics is plotted in a universal format. Analytical design rules which are valid over certain ranges of parameters were also given. Finally, commonly used approximate analysis techniques are considered for comparison purposes and the shortcomings of these techniques and the ranges over which they can be used satisfactorily are pointed out.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
