Abstract

Elements needed for a meaningful delineation of particle separation systems and prediction of separation results have been identified and characterized. The most important elements of particle separation systems are balance of forces or equivalent quantities such as energy, momentum, probability, etc., as well as particle trajectory, stratification of particles, and splitting the stratified material into products.
