Abstract

Smoothed acyl chain orientational order parameter profiles are compared for lipids having the same headgroup and different acyl chain lengths. It is found that the shape of the smoothed orientational order profile is correlated with the magnitudes of the order parameters in that profile if position along the chain is normalized. This result implies that the correlation length, for changes in order parameter along the chain, is proportional to the length of the acyl chain.
