Abstract

Purpose: British military operational commitments resulted in developments in medical technology, process and understanding, which improved survivability on the battlefield. the complexity of the injuries sustained by combat casualties presented a unique challenge to Defence Rehabilitation. These combat casualties required input from multiple agents operating across varying systems of healthcare and their treatment attracted intense media and political scrutiny. Collectively, these medical, social and political forces created a complex operational climate in which rehabilitation services were delivered.
