Abstract
The growth of the palliative care movement in the United States will have enormous impact on pain specialty in terms of the increasing need for the skills of its professional work force and demand for improved symptom management from our sickest and most vulnerable patients. In this paper, we review the need for palliative care, recent developments in this new field and implications for specialists in pain management.
