Abstract

The normalization of string amplitudes is fixed at arbitrary genus by the requirement that the elastic two-particle scattering amplitude exponentiates in the Regge regime. We use this approach to determine the overall normalization of the N-string g-loop vertex in three cases: for the bosonic string; for the type II superstring in the Neveu-Schwarz sector; and for a heterotic string model in the sector containing Yang-Mills interactions. We present a regularization procedure that removes the tachyonic contribution from the bosonic string calculation.
