Abstract

Studies of unipolar arcs were made by using a surface station incorporating real time optical/electrical measurements. Problems on the real time observation in a fluctuating plasma are discussed and a method to identify arcs is obtained. The role of disruptive MHD instabilities which cause unipolar arcs is pointed out and the influence of the magnetic field on arc tracks has also been shown.
