Abstract
This study examines the relationship between different facets of worker commitment and career success. Using French data, we apply factor mixture analysis (FMA) to identify eight employee profiles based on their level of organizational, union and career commitment. The validity of the profiles was confirmed by their association with multiple predictors and by their subjective and objective career success. We find that career success is related to certain facets of commitment. Specifically, our results indicate that impression management issues may explain the coherent patterns of association between commitment profiles and career success, suggesting that employee commitment has a symbolic value that is rewarded by the employer.
