Abstract

The official code for seismic-resistant design currently used in the republics of the former USSR was promulgated in June 1981 and published in Part II of “Basic Norms and Rules for Civil and Structural Engineering” [SNIP II-7-81 (1982)]. This code includes provisions for the seismic-resistant design of buildings and other structural systems such as highway bridges and hydraulic structures. Also, it recognizes that seismic analysis and design of buildings and other structures require information on the soil condition at the site, the structural characteristics of the building, and the seismic history of the region.
