Abstract

Cleft lip and palate are considered one of the most common birth defects that possess significant medical, psychological, social, and financial implications on the affected individuals and families. The unilateral cleft lip deformity can be repaired by many techniques, despite the numerous eponymous techniques, all are derivedfrom three basic “methods” for unilateral cleft lip repair: the straight-line technique, the triangular flap technique, and the rotation-advancement technique. The Evaluation of the long-term outcomes of the primary cleft lip repair is extremely important in order to study surgical outcome and also predict the evolution of the scar over time. There is considerable variation among studies in measuring and reporting outcomes after cleft lip repair. Some investigators have used clinical photographs with subjective scoring, whereas othersuse 3-dimensional imaging, computerised measurements or anthropometry.
