Abstract

AbstractKaryotypes of 23 species of Allium subgen. Melanocrommyum were diploid with 2n = 16. This includes first reports for 14 species. One accession (A. taeniopetalum) had one B‐chromosome. All karyotypes are symmetrical consisting of metacentric and submetacentric chromosomes. Generally a high variability of arm length ratios among individual metaphase plates was found. Neither clear species‐specific nor section‐specific karyotypes could be established.
