Abstract

We construct the far field asymptotics in the problem of diffraction by a perfectly conducting cylinder with the cross-section approximated by a strongly elongated ellipse. The asymptotic representation appears uniform with respect to the rate of elongation. It allows for the variation of the RCS from the limiting case of the strip to the case of the circular cylinder to be traced.
