Abstract
The UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller) is an innovative Control device for electrical power system transmission-network operation and control. The UPFC device comprises of shunt and series parts to compensate the network based on their ratings. The UPFC Controller has the capacity and capability to dynamically control the electrical power transmission-network control parameters. These include transmission line-impedance, phase-angle, and line-voltage. In this paper set of equations are introduced to demonstrate UPFC and shared two bus electrical power system network. EMTP and Matlab models have been validated and tested to determine their accuracy with precision. The paper demonstrates a pragmatic tool for electrical power system's planning and control engineering how to identify and determine the strengths and weaknesses of the Unified Power Flow Controller's application and its significant impact on the electrical power system operations and control. Furthermore, the UPFC has an ability to overcome time-based contingencies in the electrical power network operations and control with degree of precision.
