Abstract

In the petroleum industry, there are various special formats of seismic data, that are non-structural data. For lack of normal method to describe the structure and access data, it is difficult to share seismic among difference applications. The features of seismic data are analyzed that the data file structure can be defined in formal method and XML, and the file structure is dynamic, that can be adjusted dynamically according data in file. A architecture is put forward to describe the logical structure of seismic data file, that is composite of three levels: the format definition language, special format definition, physical data file. The format definition language is defined in XML schema, that can define difference kinds of seismic data format, and can meet the requirement for dynamic. To access data by logical structure for seismic data file, the approach of mapping from logical structure to physical file is presented. Above method has been applied to manage seismic data in petroleum domain, and is suitable for other formats of bulk data.
