Abstract

Recently proposed unified analytical framework for bit error rate (BER) analysis of multichannel coherent and non- coherent binary data transmission is applied to derive average error probability of a switched diversity system operating over a slow flat Rayleigh fading channel perturbed by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Two variants of switched combining (SWC) namely switch and stay combining (SSC) and switch and examine combining (SEC) has been considered for modeling. Simple closed-form BER expressions as a function of switching threshold have been found and optimum switching thresholds have been calculated for both the cases.
