Abstract

The impact response of a beam of unidirectionally fibre-reinforced ceramic matrix composites with matrix crack is modelled. Time-dependent stress intensity factors of the matrix crack and stresses in bridging fibres are obtained and their relationships with parameters such as crack lengths, interfacial bonding strengths, fibre diameters, beam configurations and loading rates are discussed in detail.
