Abstract

We have investigated the effect of uniaxial pressure on the magnetic and transport properties in the heavy-fermion metamagnet CeRu 2Si 2. The effect is found to be very anisotropic. The pressure parallel to the tetragonal c-axis largely suppresses the magnetization and shifts the metamagnetic anomaly to higher fields, apparently, enhancing the c–f hybridization. On the other hand, the effect of pressure perpendicular to the c-axis is small.
