Abstract
The cold forging system consists of the sequential operations such as the work material selection, billet preparation and lubrication, preforming, forging and subsequent operations and treatments, a group of hardwares such as the workpiece, lubricant, tooling, press and possibly computers and the softwares for all of them. Through outlining the methods and results of research and the development work done by the present author, his collaborators and the subgroups of Japanese Cold Forging Committee and their members, he elucidates the significance of the individual components of the system. He also emphasizes the importance of complete systematization of the components in order to rationally optimize the system and suggests what should be done in the future for that purpose.
