Abstract

In order to minimize video quality degradation, when fine granularity scalability (FGS) video is being transmitted over the Internet, unequal loss protection optimized strategy is applied to FGS enhancement layer. Firstly, according to the principle of linear interpolation, the strategy establishes rate-distortion model for the enhancement layer per frame. Then considering the different significance of FGS enhancement layer, FGS enhancement layer is protected with forward error correction (FEC) .And binary unequal loss protection (BULP) strategy use binary recursive search algorithm to allocate the different number of redundant data in different enhancement layers. The strongest protection is assigned for the most significant layers. The simulation result shows that this strategy can reduce iterations of redundant packet allocated in per frame, video distortion and the fluctuation of video quality effectively, so as to meet the needs of network transmission much better.
