Abstract

From the study of continuous seismic reflection profiles (Flexotir) we have revealed a marked morphological contrast between the Northern Algerian margin and the other margins of the Balearic basin. Such a difference is made particularly clear by a downwarping of the sedimentary layers at the limit of the Algerian margin. This downwarping could be explained by the existence of a trench being formed by compression.
