Abstract

A soil conductivity survey, carried out on the northern side of the Late-Roman city wall of Tours, on the East side of Rue des Maures, brought to light an important contrast of resistivity which may be the result of a large gap in the Late-Roman fortification wall. Placed on the main axis of the amphitheatre and on the line of the wooden structures discovered in the Loire riverbed, that contrast could confirm the reality of a Roman City Gate, sketches of which appeared on 12th and 18th century drawings.
