Abstract

A revision of the unedited epigraphic material of the Archaeology Museum of Bavay (Nord) stock made it possible to reunite five fragments belonging to the same monumental inscription. In spite of its mutilation and of the hypothetic character of the restoration, it looks as though the text mentions Emperor Septimius Severus and his wife Iulia Domna. This inscription probably comes from the forum and should apparently be related to the reconstruction of the city and its monumental centre ; moreover, the analysis of the fragments shows that it has later on been split up into pieces and used in the filling-in of the Lower Empire wall surrounding the forum.
