Abstract

The bucket brigades are self-balancing production lines: each operator works on many adjacent workstations, such that the balancing emerges spontaneously, due to a decentralized control strategy (the TSS Rule). In the theoretical model - the Normative Model - it is assumed that the work on the next item is restarted instantaneously and simultaneously for all the operators. In this paper the behavior of these lines when relaxing this assumption is analyzed and a sufficient self-balancing condition for this new model is provided.
