Abstract

Numerous small glands closely associated with the post cardinal vein, here called tubule corpuscles, lie between the anterior interrenal tissue in the head kidney of the juvenile tarpon and the corpuscles of Stannius in the posterior part of the mesonephric kidney. These bodies were absent in an adult tarpon indicating that they are probably a juvenile character. Various histological techniques showed a closer cytological relationship of these tubule corpuscles to the anterior interrenal gland than to the corpuscles of Stannius. A close relationship with the wall of the postcardinal vein was characteristic of both the anterior interrenal gland and the tubule corpuscles. It was concluded that the tubule corpuscles are probably accessory anterior interrenal tissue.
