Abstract

The paper contains modeling and simulation of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique for under water acoustic communication. Speed of sound inside water is 1500 m/s which causes large delay spread due to multipath propagation and also fading effect can be observed which gives birth to interference. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing reduces long delay spread due to low data rate of subcarriers and hence Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) can be eliminated. Also the orthogonality of subcarriers reduces Inter Carrier Interference (ICI). The objective of the paper is to improve the performance of OFDM in underwater environment by the use of interleaver. Also the effect of coding is observed. The model was simulated in MATLAB Simulink and the results are presented.
