Abstract

Conductivity or type of contaminant results in marginal variation in contact angle of water droplet on silicone rubber. Irrespective of the type of contaminant corona inception voltage is inversely proportional to the conductivity under AC/DC stress. There was marginal variation in corona inception voltage amongst the droplets of same conductivity but made up of different contaminants. Acid rain was observed to have nearly same inception voltage as deionized water. Majority of the peaks of the Optical emission spectrum were confined to Near UV region, further intensity of Na peak increased with increase in conductivity of the contaminant. Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy gives a clear fingerprint of elements present in silicone rubber.
