Abstract

AbstractThe process of photocatalysis has received a lot of interest in recent years. The process of photocatalysis takes place in the presence of sunlight. The different catalysts are used during the process of photocatalysis like TiO2, ZnO, metal oxides, nitrides, among others. The basic processes of photocatalysis have been addressed in detail in this chapter, with heterogeneous and homogeneous photocatalysis being the two primary forms of photocatalysis. Both types have their own advantages and disadvantages that can influence the catalytic performance of any semiconductor. A variety of factors can have a significant influence on a material's photocatalytic activity. The most important factors that affect photocatalysis are pH, type of semiconductor, doping, and recombination rate of electrons and holes.
